Harvest season is approaching!
Shoemyer himself grew up in the county of Shelby, in Clarence, on a family farm and thus is very committed to his rural values and beliefs. He calls himself the “voice for independent family farmers and Northeast Missouri” because of his long connection and love of the area. In his weekly column, he even reminded his citizens that harvest time is approaching so be sure to watch out for slow moving tractors and other vehicles on the roads.
SHOEMYER ON THE MOVE: If Shoemyer’s concern about area family farms and the constant love for his district is not convincing enough that he cares about his citizens, we also found that he is STILL continuing his dedication to improving the job economy, as we discussed in length in our last blog. This past week he attended the governor’s regional economic development meeting which was held on Truman State University’s campus. He met with many local experts and business leaders, as well as politicians, to begin forming goals to develop more jobs right here in Missouri. This aspect of Shoemyer’s agenda is very important to me as I will very soon be looking for a job and hope that the job market will start improving very soon, for everyone’s sake.
This question is this, do you want to continue to have a state senator that connects with his citizens through common values and thus knows how to support and uphold their beliefs in the Missouri Senate? Then VOTE for Wes Shoemyer.
Will you vote for Shoemyer? Comment and let us know! The election will be here before you know it!

When Shoemyer Wins, We All Win
Unemployment. Recession. Jobs. Manufacturing. Economy. We hear these words so often through the media that they start to lose their meaning. But they are real issues that need to be addressed and here at A New View on Shoe, we truly believe in Shoemyer to do what needs to get done.
According to the US Department of Labor, unemployment has increased in Missouri from 3.2% in January 2000 to 9.4% last month. Missouri’s unemployment rate is right near the nation’s which is 9.6%. In a little over two and a half years since it was declared we were in a recession in December of 2007, unemployment has raised 4.4%.
These numbers are obviously staggering. The numbers are even more meaningful for the 279,304 that are unemployed in Missouri. When one’s unemployed, I can only assume they’re not so much concerned about whether we’re technically still in a recession or not, or how the percentage has changed over the past decade. They are focused on finding a job so that they can keep their homes and provide for their families. And more than just provide a roof over our heads, we’re all trying to live the American dream.
This is why we strongly encourage those unemployed voters, or those voters who could one day be unemployed (and really, who isn’t one of those?) to vote for Wes Shoemyer. He recently was awarded the 2010 Friend of Manufacturing and Industry Award from the Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM). According to a press release from the AIM regarding the award, the association promotes “a favorable business climate for business, manufacturing and industry.”
AIM looks at legislators’ past voting trends regarding taxation, employment and Worker’s Compensation law; insurance reform, environmental regulation and job creation initiatives to determine the winner of the award. What more could you ask for from a senator? Shoemyer is not just saying he wants to help the unemployed and he’s not just saying it now that his re-election is at stake. He is truly representing us as best as possible in the Missouri Congress. He is concerned with and invested in restoring our state’s economy and truly believes in his abilities to do so and we agree.
What do you think?

Shoemyer's Weekly Column
Hello everyone, we are so glad to have you joining us as our blog continues to develop! Recently we discovered an informative collection of articles written by Senator Shoemyer posted on Kirksville's Heartlandconnection news website. Each week Shoemyer updates his district on his recent activities and informs citizens about important actions of the government. In this past week’s article, which was posted on September 16th, Shoemyer discusses several important issues:
-Election season is often heated and filled with negativity between candidates but the end will come and -Shoemyer hopes the representatives and senators will put these arguments behind them and serve the state in the best way possible.
-Every state Senator of Missouri comes from a different community and thus deliberating may occur but in the end they are all citizens of this state focused on doing whats best for the public
Shoemyer also hopes that, no matter who wins the election, the Senate traditions of the minority and majority trying their best to work together will continue
Shoemyer on the move: This past week Shoemyer also traveled to Kansas City for the 52nd Governor’s Conference on Economic Development. The conference was working to improve the status of the job market in Missouri.

Welcome!
Hi everyone and welcome to our blog, A New View on Shoe. This will come to be a one-stop shop for everything Wes Shoemyer. We're both undergrad political communication students and we'll be presenting politics in a more concise, appealing way. Our main goal is to inform our readers of the upcoming November election. We feel like it’s our responsibility as citizens of this city, county, and district to be informed of issues and to vote in local elections.
Throughout this journey, we'll definitely be welcoming and encouraging questions and comments from all concerned voters. Through writing this, we feel it’s our duty to find out and respond to what’s important to you, our reader. Our own opinions will also be mixed in with these responses so readers will quickly get to know us and our viewpoint throughout the campaign. So, please feel free to leave us a comment, question, or concern, anything at all.
After being students in this area for four years, we've come to realize how important the combination of community and university are. All thirteen counties in District 18 are important and therefore must work together to understand the issues and become informed voters. We encourage everyone to become educated about our candidates and also make sure they're registered and vote in the local election.
Most importantly, we'll be keeping tabs on Wes Shoemyer as Election Day nears. We will be passing along pertinent and fully researched information to you so that you'll know what's going on with his campaign. If we see Wes around town, we’ll speak with him and pass along your concerns. We’ll ask for clarification, answers, suggestions or plans- whatever you may want.
Check back often as we will be updating three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We’ll be adding some background information of Wes, important issues in this election, and also suggestions of other good blogs we think you should keep up with in order to stay informed. See you soon!
